Spend an intensive three days in this workshop learning the basics of creating innovative and exciting pastel portraits from quick pose studies. Students will be working from a live model to develop quick pose sketches that will be used to create character pastel portraits.
Students will learn:
- How to develop an approach to drawing quick pose portraits in three to five minutes
- Basic portrait proportions
- Simple approaches in rendering the eyes, nose and mouth in pastel
- How to block in a portrait in with two and three values
- Working from live models
- Developing character pastel portraits from quick pose sketches
- Key components to look for in value mapping the portrait
- Critique sessions and open discussions
Supply list
- 431 Steel Gray Canson Pastel Paper
- pastels..(starter sets for portraits would work fine)
- Pastel support/drawing board for 11"x 14" paper
- Kneaded eraser
- Copy Paper 11" x 17" or 8 ˝" x 14"

Mike Beeman is a signature member of both the Pastel Society of America, the Pastel Society of Colorado, and also belongs to the Pastel Society of the Northern Rockies.
